# What is WH40k Character Manager? WH40k Character Manager is an unofficial tool that aims to help character creation and managing for the following RPG systems: - Dark Heresy 2ed., - Only War, - Rogue Trader convertion (based on https://docs.google.com/document/d/1M2hzwyXYNXrkFNYrazSDwbiF_O-NlETOjm9FGLyhA9A), - Deathwatch conversion (based on https://magos-garage.fandom.com/wiki/Deathwatch_conversion_to_DH2). The tool comes in 2 forms: desktop application (Windows only), and website. # Is there a difference in available functionality between desktop application and website? Yes, a significant one. Desktop application comes with the full functionality of creating a character & managing their progress, along with some additional features like, for example, item management & PDF character sheet generation. Website only allows to manage progress of a character already created in the desktop application. # How do I start using WH40k Character Manager desktop application? You can download the application from https://wh40kchm.waw.pl/files/public/WH40kCharacterManager.zip on a computer with Windows operating system. After downloading it, you have to extract the .zip file & launch WH40kCharacterManager.exe from the extracted folder. README file in that same folder can help you with figuring out how to use the application. # What is the full scope of functionality available in WH40k Character Manager desktop application? Desktop application comes with the following functionality: - character creation, - character progress management, - MasterMode state, in which character changes can be applied more freely & without spending XP, - character items management, - PDF character sheet generation, - talent set overview (with sorting & filters) for all supported RPG systems, - creation helper tool for figuring out which creation choices would give your character expected aptitudes, - creation helper tool for finding creation choices that suit your "storywise" idea for a character, - uploading characters to / downloading characters from the website server, - team equipment management. # Do you plan the website to provide the same functionalty as this desktop epplication? Some of those functions are considered to be added to the website at some point. When exactly? Only the Emperor knows. # How do I start using WH40k Character Manager website? First, you'll have to prepare the desktop application for creating your character(s) (see the above questions). After that, you can create your character(s), and then create an account on the website & upload your character(s) to its server. README file in the application's folder can help you with figuring out how to do this. After successful upload of your character(s) to the server, you can go to https://wh40kchm.waw.pl, log in using your credentials & use the website to manage characters' progress. # Is there any way to start using WH40k Character Manager website without using the desktop application first? No. # Does the manager include all the character creation and progression mechanics in the Dark Heresy 2ed. system? For the time being, the mamager should include all the mentioned mechanics in the Dark Heresy 2ed. system, with the exception of Malignancies and Homeworlds from supplemental rulebooks that are named planets (i.e. Kalto from Enemies Within). # Does the manager include all the character creation and progression mechanics in the Only War system? For the time being, the mamager should include all the mentioned mechanics in the Only War system, with the exception of Malignancies and Veteran Talents. # Why didn't you include Malignancies? Will you add them in the nearest future? I didn't include them because I don't use them in this form in my campaigns. I don't have plans for adding them. Malignancies can be simulated by applying appropriate operations when in MasterMode (desktop application only). # [DH 2ed.] Why didn't you include named planets as Homeworlds? Will you add them in the nearest future? I didn't include them because my campaigns take place in my custom sector. Adding them to the manager isn't important for me, but it is possible that I will add them on the occasion, if the community will be interested in it. # [OW] Why didn't you include Veteran Talents? Will you add them in the nearest future? I didn't include them because I thought that adding them would do more harm than good (mainly because of the necessity for meeting the Battlefield Requirement). Adding them to the manager isn't important for me, but it is possible that I will add them on the occasion, if the community will be interested in it. # [OW] Character creation lacks Special Equipment Doctrines. That's correct, I intentionally omitted that step, because it affects only character's equipment, which isn't handled by the manager. # [OW] Why Support Speciality characters start with 300 XP spent? To equalize them with the starting 600 XP of other characters, for the purposes of checking threshold exceeding for possible speciality change. # I've made a mistake during character creation. Do I have to go through the whole creation process again? Yes. # Can I delete a specialist skill/talent row that I've created by/with mistake? No. You can leave it unchecked, but the row will remain with you forever as a sign of your failure. # Will you add item managing? It has already been added to the desktop version of the application. # What guarantee do I have that you implemented everything properly according to the rulebooks? I cannot give any guarantee. I can only vouch for my experience in WH40k RPG's from FFG and in software development, but of course it doesn't prove anything. If you will find an error in the manager - tell me of it, and I'll try to fix it! # Are you gonna add character creation/managing for other FFG systems? No. I'm interested only in the systems with Aptitudes. # Are you gonna add character creation/managing for some popular convertion/homebrews for FFG systems? The problem is, it is difficult to clearly define if a given convertion/homebrew is popular. I do use some of them myself and, in a manager version available to my players only, I've included character creation for them, but it also includes my homerules. If there is enough interest in a particular conversion/homebrew among the community, I'll consider adding a character creation for it - just like I made with "RT2". # Are you gonna add character creation/managing for Imperium Maledictum? No. I'm interested only in FFG systems. # Are you gonna add character creation/managing for Wrath & Glory? No. I'm interested only in FFG systems. There are other brilliant W&G tools being developed - go check them out! # How to contact you? It is possible to contact us by: a) Email: grego.wh40k@gmail.com b) Reddit: u/Grego_from_Qinoth
